Bank of Canada Cuts Key Rate by 0.25%
The Bank of Canada cut its benchmark interest rate by 0.25% to 4.75%, the first reduction since March 2020. This move addresses inflation control, slower Q1 economic growth, and a modest rise in employment. Governor Tiff Macklem signalled potential future cuts if inflation trends continue positively.

Vancouver Developer Faces 4th Foreclosure
Align Properties faces foreclosure on a fourth Vancouver project, a land assembly at 5589-5661 Baillie Street. Amber Mortgage Investment initiated the $5.3M loan foreclosure in November 2023. The property is listed for $22M. This follows three other foreclosures: 1555 Robson, 1485 Davie, and 5812-5844 Cambie.
Greater Vancouver Sales Drop 20% in May
Greater Vancouver’s real estate market saw a 19.9% drop in May sales, with 2,733 transactions. New listings were up 12.6% from last year, totalling 6,374. Active listings rose 46.3% to over 13,000. The market is balancing, with a 20.8% sales-to-active-listings ratio. Prices rose modestly, with the composite benchmark at $1,212,000.
UBC Buys Another Property to Expand Future Surrey Campus
UBC has acquired another Surrey property near King George SkyTrain Station for $40.5 million. The new campus will include academic, residential, and commercial spaces.
